Safety Alert - April 1, 2020: Schools closed for remainder of school year

April 1, 2020 Update: Schools are closed for the remainder of school year. Monitor our telephone, email, social media, news media and/or our dedicated COVID-19 website for further updates about how this affects our operations and answers to your specific questions. We ask for your continued patience.

Governor Brian Kemp and members of the state's Novel Coronavirus team hosted a press conference at the Capitol today. Governor Kemp stated that he plans to sign two orders. The first will require all residents to shelter in place from Friday. April 3 - April 13. He also will sign an order closing all public schools through the end of the year.

We know this will generate many questions. Please know that our leadership has been working hard since March 15, to plan for many different scenarios. We continue to ask for your patience and understanding as we communicate plans and answers to your questions. Remain calm and adhere to public health guidelines so that we can all do our part to remain safe and healthy.

Free meals for any children ages 0-18 during school closures (Updated 4/1)

Updated April 1, 2020 - Additional sites; Some times slightly different

Bulloch County Schools will deliver bags of free meals to 49 locations on weekdays (Monday – Friday) March 17 - May 22. The program will provide free grab and go breakfast and lunch meals to any child ages 0 to 18. No registration, sign-in, or identification is required, and the children do not have to be enrolled in one of our schools. It is not based on income. Any child is welcome, even children who may be staying here temporarily with family. Children must be present to receive meals. Look for a Bulloch County Schools’ bus at each delivery location to receive meals.

In the interest of public health and social distancing recommendations, the meals are for pick up only. No meals can be eaten at the sites. Families should also observe social distancing practices while waiting and receiving meals.

The meal delivery sites were selected based on input from the district’s school social workers, family engagement specialists, school nutrition personnel, and transportation personnel to serve areas with the most need.  Each meal sack will include food for breakfast and lunch. The funding for the program is made possible through the school district’s School Nutrition Department as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs.

USDA guidelines prevent the school district from being able to provide evening meals or meals on weekends. There are multiple community organizations, including Bulloch Volunteer Organizations Mobilized in Disasters (VOAD) who are organizing efforts locally to further meet any food insecurity needs.

Bulloch County Schools and its School Nutrition Program do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age or gender.  For additional information about this remote feeding program, contact Bulloch County Schools.

An asterisk (*) denotes that the site's time was updated on March 29. Some times have been adjusted to accommodate additional sites or to shift deliveries to high-volume areas.
